Help Prevent Tennessee Drunk Driving Accidents This New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is tonight, and there are numerous festivities taking place throughout Middle Tennessee. It’s important to remember that the number of drunk driving accidents spikes during this holiday. In fact, there were 16 fatal accidents last year on New Year’s Eve in Middle Tennessee. Of those crashes, almost 40 percent involved alcohol.

To help deter Tennessee drunk driving accidents this year, law enforcement will be ramping up efforts to support highway safety. Reports indicate motorists can expect to see officers and troopers not only stopping drivers to check that seat belts are being used, but conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints as well.

Clarksville Online states that law enforcement will be conducting a “No Refusal” operation during the holiday as well. This means judges will be on hand at all hours to issue warrants to obtain breath and blood samples from suspected drunk drivers, allowing law enforcement to collect the evidence necessary to obtain Driving Under the Influence (DUI) convictions.

The Nashville personal injury lawyers urge motorists to take caution when traveling this evening by pledging not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking. There are plenty of options to get you home safely. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Department will be offering free rides home from several popular locations around town if you find yourself out and without a ride. Ride sharing companies in Nashville have also offered discounts and deals for partygoers tonight. You can also utilize designated drivers and programs that offer sober individuals to get you and your car home safely.

We hope you have a fun, safe, and sober New Year’s Eve!
