Ikea Warns That 27 Million Chests May Be Defective

The Nashville defective product lawyers at Ponce Law explain that two deaths and four injuries have been linked to a defective piece of furniture manufactured by Ikea.

According to WKRN 2 News, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 14 reports of Ikea’s Malm chest tipping over on top of consumers or their children. The company has stated they have also received reports in the past of three other fatalities linked to other furniture tipping over.  As many as 27 million chests may be affected by the problem.

In response to the problem, Ikea is issuing a free kit to mount the units to a wall, which would prevent the units from tipping over. Furthermore, the CPSC is urging consumers to wall mount any chest above 23.5 inches or drawers taller than 29.5 inches to a wall to prevent tipping.

Even if you’re taking safety precautions, defective product injuries can still happen. The Nashville personal injury lawyers at Ponce Law are available to answer your questions if you’ve been injured by a faulty product at no fault of your own.
