Investigators Consider Several Possible Causes of Fatal Truck Crash

Two of the most common causes of truck accidents in the United States include safety violations and driver errors. Both are now considered possible contributing factors to a Tennessee truck accident that claimed four lives and left dozens of others injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, along I-75 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Reports indicate traffic was stopped for construction along the highway when a tractor-trailer failed to come to a halt and plowed into a line of other vehicles.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, this isn’t the first accident or run-in with the law that the driver of the tractor-trailer or his employer have had. Documents show the driver was cited for careless driving in Florida the day before the fatal crash in Tennessee. Furthermore, the trucking company has faced numerous safety violations in the past. Some of those charges include failure to properly maintain the brakes on trucks and inaccurate driver logs. During the last two years, the company has failed 37 percent of vehicle inspections.

Trucking rules and regulations are in place to protect all motorists on the road, which is why the Nashville truck accident lawyers at Ponce Law are hopeful an investigation into this recent crash can help determine if safety violations are to blame.
