Organizations Working to Prevent Drunk Driving Accidents on New Year’s Eve

December 30, 2013

Drunken driving is a major problem today along the highways running throughout the state of Tennessee. In fact, data indicates a total of 975 people have died this year alone as a result of Tennessee Drunk Driving Accidents. This number has prompted many citizens to become concerned for safety with the coming of New Year’s Eve.

An article published in the Cleveland Daily Banner stated the Tennessee Highway Patrol is working tirelessly to take drunk drivers off the road this holiday season with increased patrols throughout the state and “No Refusal” programs. The state’s “No Refusal” law, which went into effect in July 2012, allows troopers to obtain search warrants from judges for blood samples from drivers who are suspected of being intoxicated while behind the wheel. Saturation patrols will also be utilized to pinpoint and stop motorists who are suspected of driving drunk.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says it is also working to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving by partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving in their campaign to wear red ribbons.

The Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers with Michael D. Ponce & Associates recognize the dangers drunken driving can pose and are hopeful the efforts being made throughout the state are successful in keeping motorists safe this holiday season!
