Taking Xarelto®? Be on the Lookout for These Dangerous Complications.

Xarelto® is a blood thinner that’s often prescribed to people who undergo joint replacement surgery or who have valvular atrial fibrillation. Like all blood thinners, Xarelto increases the risk of serious bleeding events. But unlike other common blood thinners, including warfarin, there are no drugs that counteract Xarelto’s blood-thinning mechanism, making bleeding much more difficult to slow down or stop.

People who take Xarelto are at risk for many health problems, some of which can be fatal. If you or a loved one was prescribed Xarelto, it’s important to be aware of the following complications:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding – Severe bleeding isn’t always external. Internal bleeding—including in the stomach or gastrointestinal tract—can be caused by a variety of conditions and may be difficult to detect. Symptoms of stomach bleeding include black or tarry stool, blood in vomit, and abdominal pain.
  • Spinal/epidural hematoma – Blood that builds up between the dura mater—which is the outer membrane of the central nervous system—and the skull can result in spinal/epidural hematomas. Those conditions can result in loss of consciousness and even death.

If you experience any adverse effects that may have been caused by Xarelto, call your doctor or go to an emergency room right away. Then, get in touch with a Nashville drug injury lawyer.

At Ponce Law, we know how damaging some prescription medications can be, and we want to fight for the rights of people who are injured by them. Call today for a free consultation.
