TN Workers’ Compensation Changes

The main goals of the workers’ comp bill are to design a system that is fair to both workers and employers in terms of benefits, to make the system easier to understand for injured workers, to lower workers’ compensation insurance premiums and to speed up the settling of work injury claims. Key components of the Tennessee workers’ compensation bill include the following:

  • Increasing the number of weeks for disability benefits from 400 to 450
  • Making outcomes more predictable by utilizing workers’ compensation judges
  • Putting a greater emphasis on mediation
  • Utilizing neutral ombudsmen to help unrepresented workers file forms and prepare for mediation

Our Knowledgeable Workers’ Comp Lawyers Can Help

“Working to lower workers’ comp premiums is a key tool in helping bring new employers to Tennessee, said Workers’ Compensation Administrator Abbie Hudgens. “We want to do everything we can to encourage new employers to start their businesses in Tennessee.” And while it may seem like Tennessee employers are the ones benefiting from the workers’ compensation reform, TN workers too, will benefit from lower rates of work injuries and illnesses. According to TOSHA Administrator Steve Hawkins, “TOSHA and Workers’ Compensation agree the best way to reduce costs is to maintain a safe and healthful workplace by eliminating or controlling workplace hazards.” If you have suffered workplace injuries in Nashville, or elsewhere in Tennessee, consult our knowledgeable lawyers at Michael D.
