Crash alert: Driver charged in Nashville crash that left woman critically hurt

NASHVILLE, TN – A young man was arrested and charged in connection with an accident in Nashville that left another driver critically injured, WKRN reports.

Police said 19-year-old Yehiys Nigatu was driving on Murfreesboro Pike near Edge O’ Lake Drive at about 1 a.m. Saturday when he crossed over the center line and crashed into another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other car, a woman, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Nigatu was also hospitalized.

Police said Nigatu admitted to drinking a quarter of a fifth of vodka before getting behind the wheel. He was charged with vehicular assault and taken to the Metro jail.
