NASHVILLE, TN – A series of incidents that began with a crash prompted authorities to shut down a stretch of Interstate 24 in Nashville for hours early Sunday, according to WKRN.

The initial crash involved three vehicles and occurred just after midnight on I-24 eastbound between Harding Place and Haywood Lane. It left one person with minor injuries.

The vehicle of an officer responding to the scene was rear-ended, and the officer was hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver who struck the vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence.

Another person was later arrested for DUI after passing out in their vehicle while waiting for the highway to be reopened, police said. Meanwhile, another vehicle that was also waiting in traffic caught fire and Nashville firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

It took about three hours before the scene was finally cleared and I-24 reopened to traffic.
